Later Generations Reflecting on the Birth of Christ - All Songs

These final songs occur centuries after Christ. They look back on His birth, why He came, and contemplate what we can do now to remember Him.

"I Wonder as I Wander"

"I wonder as I wander out under the sky how Jesus the Savior did come for to die for poor ordinary people like you and like I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

When Mary birthed Jesus 'twas in a cow's stall, with wise men and farmers and shepherds and all. But high from God's heaven a star's light did fall, and the promise of ages it then did recall.

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing, a star in the sky, or a bird on the wing, or all of God's angels in heav'n for to sing, He surely could have it, 'cause he was the King.

Scriptures
Mosiah 3:5-10
Moroni 9:25-26

"Still, Still, Still"
"Still, still, still, one can hear the falling snow. For all is hushed, The world is sleeping, Holy Star its vigil keeping.

Sleep, sleep, sleep. ''Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth. The night is peaceful all around you, Close your eyes, let sleep surround you.

Dream Dream dream of that joyous day to come when guardian angels without number watch you as you sweetly slumber."

"O Holy Night"

Scripture
2nd Nephi 26:33 (condensed) And he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness, black and white, bond and free, male and female, and all are alike unto God.

Lyrics:
"O holy night! The stars are brightly shining. It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born; O night divine, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming with glowing power by his cradle we stand. So led by light of a star serenely gleaming here come the wise men from Orient land. The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger through all our trials born to be our friend. He knows our need. To our weakness is no stranger. Behold your King! Before him lowly bend.

Truly He taught us to love one another. His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother and in his name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we. Let all within us praise His holy name. Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever. His power and glory ever more proclaim!"

"What Songs Were Sung"

Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 76:19-24, 40-41
And while we meditated upon these things, the Lord touched the eyes of our understandings and they were opened, and the glory of the Lord shone round about. And we beheld the glory of the Son, on the right hand of the Father, and received of his fullness; And saw the holy angels, and them who are sanctified before his throne, worshiping God, and the Lamb, who worship him forever and ever. And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God. And this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us. That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness.

Lyrics:
"We cannot tell, we do not know what stars shone down so long ago when Mary birthed her own sweet Son and peace and love became as one.

The Son of God as scriptures said was Virgin born in a tiny shed where simple shepherds stood hard by while heav'nly sound filled up the sky.

Now let us stand uncovered all before this cre'che in lowly stall where kings and angels dignify God's gift His Son in humility.

We do not know, we cannot tell what songs were sung, what starlight fell or why the holy mystery stands for so many years in so many lands.

We cannot tell, we do not know what stars shone down so long ago when Mary birthed her own sweet Son and peace and love became as one."
