Prophecies of Christ: Song #5 "Il est né, le divin Enfant"

Section 1 - Prophecies of Christ

Song #5 "Il est né, le divin Enfant"

This is a French Carol meaning "He is born, the divine infant." I thought about putting it with my other songs about Christ's actual day of birth, but I put it here with "prophecies" since the first verse talks about how prophets have promised he would come for more than 4,000 years. This is another song I like to sing half in its original language and half in English.

(Translation of verse 1 and refrain)
He is born, the divine infant, Play the oboes, ring out the bagpipes! He is born, the divine child, Let us all sing his coming! For more than four thousand years, the prophets promised him to us
For more than four thousand years we've awaited. this happy time.

(English version of verse 2 and refrain)
He is born the divine Christ child. Play on the oboe and bagpipes merrily. He is born the divine Christ child. Sing we all of the Savior's birth.
Oh how lovely, o how pure is the perfect child of heaven. Oh how lovely oh how pure. Gracious gift of God to all.

First video was made in 2020. I wanted to sing it again this year because I noticed some mistakes that needing fixing (there were some French errors and an unpleasantly sharp note).

This song is also in Tyler's Christmas piano book. It's an easy duet for me since I only have to play with one hand and usually just one note at a time, but it was pretty challenging for him to get used to the repeat signs and learning when he needs to repeat where. It was also tricky because he has to change his fingering for the middle section then change it back again when it goes back to the chorus. This is the first time he's had to change his fingering within the same song.

Scriptures:
Jacob 4:4 For this intent have we written these things, that they may know that we knew of Christ, and we had a hope of his glory many hundred years before his coming; and not only we ourselves had a hope of his glory, but also all the holy prophets which were before us.

Helaman 14:2, 5-9 And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name. And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you. And behold this is not all, there shall be many signs and wonders in heaven. And it shall come to pass that ye shall all be amazed, and wonder, insomuch that ye shall fall to the earth. And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall believe on the Son of God, the same shall have everlasting life. And behold, thus hath the Lord commanded me, by his angel, that I should come and tell this thing unto you; yea, he hath commanded that I should prophesy these things unto you; yea, he hath said unto me: Cry unto this people, repent and prepare the way of the Lord.

Nephi 25:26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

Comments

  1. So if it's half English and half French, does that make it Frenglish or Engrench? Also, I can't be certain, but I think Oboes and Bag Pipes weren't exactly available at Christ's birth. Maybe they're just referring to the merriest of instruments one could imagine.
